5 Ways to Have More Time in Your Day

Now, obviously we all have the same 24 hours in a day, but when you optimize the hours in your day you can have more free time for entertainment or relaxation, become more productive in the hours that you are working, and even get more done in less time.

The first step is to realize that the hours you have are the only truly renewable resource you have, so see them as valuable and you’ll spend far less of it checking Facebook or watching mindless YouTube videos. There is a time for everything, which includes turning your brain off and entertaining yourself with humorous or even pointless things that allow you to just let go and stop worrying about things.

But you can’t allow yourself to get stuck in the mindset that you have an endless supply of time. Clearly you know this logically, but many of us have this unconscious belief that we can always get it done tomorrow. When you aren’t aware of this that’s when it becomes a problem and you waste an entire hour on Facebook or watching television when in actuality all you had was a few minutes to spare.

This one is so common sense that most people completely overlook it and some people see it as a waste of time, but I can guarantee that if you don’t plan out your day you are losing precious minutes even hours a day you would be otherwise optimizing and getting the absolute most out of.

Many of you might be working from home, but for those who aren’t planning your day at work and home is crucial because this will allow you to be more efficient on the job and while you’re trying to get things done around the house. This process is so simple yet so effective you’ll wonder why you never did it in the first place.

3. Set goals – and achieve them!

Goal setting is one of the best ways make sure you stay on task, because once you know how precious your time is and make plans throughout the day to get everything you set out to done as efficiently as possible, your goals will drive you when you start to get off track or when you’re not quite as motivated as the days when you feel invincible.

Setting goals is not just great for staying on task, but for getting the most out of your time as well, because if you have a goal in mind it will keep you focused and even help your creativity flow like never before, which well then make it easier to achieve the goals you set. When you have something to shoot for it enables you to aim so much better and hitting your target becomes as simple as making a list of things that you would like to accomplish on a daily as well as a long term basis.

Clearly this one is obvious, but you are probably wasting more time than you realize. Being more productive is not always about merely cutting out your Facebook or television hours, but sometimes it’s about cutting back on the things that you think are serving you when really they’re just another waste of time.

For example, if you are in online marketing and you are trying out a social media strategy that isn’t working perhaps its time to try out something new. Facebook and Twitter are great tools for marketing and building connections, but they are not as effective for some people as they are for others. Having a social media presence is important, but if you’re not getting results it’s time to find a more effective strategy.

5. Find what works and optimize it

Knowing what does work is just as important as knowing what doesn’t. If you’re a writer and working at home is too distracting for you maybe what you need is to go to a coffee shop, library, or even a park and focus on the task at hand. If you don’t already know what works for you then seek out things that will help you get done what you need to.

If you already have a strategy that is working then focus on that and capitalize, just make sure you aren’t spending too much time on it. Remember, success isn’t just about monetary gain and it rarely ever looks the way you think it does. Be flexible but learn to do things that work more often and things release things that don’t work or aren’t serving your highest potential.

Entertain Yourself Constructively

This seems to be quite an important subject in today’s society because most people are obsessed with entertainment. They live for their shows, their movies, even their books or their hobbies, and while these are all well and good, becoming obsessed with them is not.

You have to have balance in your life. Remember: everything in moderation. If you are watching countless hours of television a day then chances are you are very unhealthy both physically and mentally. Watching tv shows occasionally or for merely an hour or two a day can be a great way to relax and reset your brain, but hours upon hours of it literally damages your body and mind.

Reading, on the other hand, is great for your mind, but doing it for hours a day is harmful to your body. That is, unless you can somehow be active while reading. This is why audio book sales are booming right now. Reading is important though, even if for a limited time per day, because it works neural pathways that are dormant otherwise. The same goes for writing, the physical act of doing so that is, not just texting or typing on a keyboard.

So, how do you entertain yourself constructively? You find new and interesting things to do on a daily basis. Zig Ziglar said, “If you keep on doin’ what you’ve been doin’, you’re gonna keep on gettin’ what you’ve been gettin’.” Put simply, if you keep making the same choices on a daily basis, how can anything possible change in your life? After all, you’ve probably heard before that one of the definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.

Having new experiences is one of our basic human needs. It’s why explorers still exist today, why scientists are so adamant about their research, and certain YouTube videos go viral, because people love new things to see and think about, and most people live vicariously through those who are actually out there living their lives instead of watching others do so from behind a screen.

Trying sitting out in the sun while reading instead of on the couch, or going for a walk. Being outside, in the sun, and getting fresh air are all so important to our bodies, and who you might end up meeting someone that turns into a lifelong friend. The possibilities are endless when you start getting out there more more.

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

The best way to be constructive in your entertainment is to step out of your comfort zone. This is the most important part of this entire post, so if ever you’re going to pay attention do it now. Most people are afraid of change and end up living the same boring life, ultimately ending up very cynical and unhappy with their lives. When you step outside of your comfort zone you will begin to see that life actually begins there.

If you’re someone who dances in private but not in public, try going out to a club or taking up dance lessons. If you’re self-conscious the latter might prove the better option because it takes the focus off of you and onto the dance instructor. This one simple step might be enough to make such a difference in your life that who knows, maybe it will lead you to finding your ideal career, or maybe even your soul mate.

How can you expect anything great to happen in your life if you’re too scared to step out into the world and make things happen? Life is what you make it, so get out there and try new things. One of these days you’ll end up wondering why you ever stayed cooped up on your couch or in your bedroom, looking back and thinking how much more fun you have sharing your life with others and experiencing new and exciting things.

5 Ways to Make Exercise Fun!

Most people these days dread exercise, the very thought of which is enough to cause stress and even anxiety, but what if we could make exercise fun? I for one have experienced this. Most days I have no desire to exercise, not in the traditional sense that is, but you have to find fun ways to exercise, or you will never have a desire to do so.

In “The Science of Being Well, Wallace D Wattles states that you can’t exercise for the purpose of being healthy because that comes from the mindset that you aren’t or won’t be healthy if you don’t exercise. Instead, exercise by being active doing things you love.

Here are 5 ways to make exercise fun or have fun while exercising:

1. Play sports.

We all know that athletes are among the healthiest people on Earth. This is because many of them are very health conscious, but also because they are often active on a daily basis and they love what they do! Even if this isn’t their day job they are often excited about getting to do something they love on a daily or at least weekly basis.

Here are some sports you may not have considered, that may actually bring tons of joy and fulfillment in your life: rock climbing, surfing, skateboarding, hang gliding, bicycling, hiking, canoeing, sky diving, bungee jumping, cliff jumping, base jumping, free running, parkour, gymnastics, and last but not least dancing.

2. Walking.

This may seem commonsense, but most people never consider just going for a walk on a daily basis. Personally I find lots of fulfillment in going for a walk. Even a ten minute walk is enough to change your mood, the way you perceive yourself, and how you feel physically.

Also, it will help you get out and off the couch, if that’s something you struggle with. Getting outside, in the sun, and breathing fresh air is great for your body and mind, and who knows, you might meet some interesting people on your way around town.

3. Join an exercise program.

Exercise programs are good because they are diverse, often fun, and are easier to stick with than going for a run or to the gym, at least in my experience they are.

Here are some of the most popular exercise programs: P90X, Insanity, Zumba, CrossFit, Squat Challenge, Plank Exercise and Daily Burn.

Personally I think P90X is the whole package because it has cardio and strengths workouts, and it will build flexibility and balance, especially if you do the yoga workout. It’s also good because it has a kick boxing workout, plyometrics, or jump training, a pretty amazing core workout, and let’s not forget the ab ripper!

4. Learn martial arts.

Martial arts are great because they are fun and practical. It’s a great life skill to be able to protect yourself and you work muscles that normally get left behind during other workout sessions, plus it’s a great cardio workout as well.

Learning a martial art can also be a very transformational experience, turning the most passively complacent individual into a real go-getter who pursues their true passion in life. Bruce Lee, arguably the world’s greatest martial artist, was much more than that. He was one of our greatest philosophers, in my opinion, and an amazing actor.

5. Have sex!

Now, obviously if you’re too young or abstinent this one does not apply to you.

Let’s face it, this is the most fun you are ever going to have getting a workout 😉 Seriously though, if you don’t think so, you most likely have some hang ups regarding this particular subject and in my opinion should seek counseling or a support group.

Again, if you’re too young for this or abstaining then just keep on doing what you’re doing and don’t worry about this. If you are sexually active, however, and you don’t find it fun then this is probably a sign that you have some internal scarring to deal with.

Anyway, having sex, especially people who are exploratory and creative in the bedroom (or wherever else you do it) is good for you on many levels, not just physically, but since this is a post about physical exercise, it works your heart, muscles, and, depending on how you do it, will most likely make you more flexible.

Shed Your Fear of Conflict

In today’s world a lot of people are so afraid of conflict that they can’t even speak up when they know they should, they can’t even stand up for themselves or their point of view when they know there is merit and authenticity to both. This subsequently hides your authenticity and your integrity, leading to an ungrounded life with your head in the sand.

If you can’t speak up for yourself it’s most likely because you feel unsafe, you feel like if you say what you want to say someone else will have a problem with it and you will end up getting hurt, but the truth is you are hurting yourself far more by not speaking up. Furthermore, by keeping your earnest opinion to yourself you are also hurting those around you who could be benefitting from what you have to say.

With that in mind, how can you shed your fear of conflict? The better question is how can you start to feel safe and secure and comfortable in your skin to have a strong enough desire to speak up when you know you should be heard?

The answer is simple: stop assuming you know what the outcome is going to be. Chances are you are too wrapped up in your own head to even consider that those you have a need to share your thoughts with might just be receptive to them, and even if they aren’t, what are you really afraid of? Getting hurt physically? Being rejected or getting fired?

What you need to do is get to the core of what you are really afraid of, the best way of which is to actually have a conversation with yourself and delve deep into your unconscious by asking it questions. I know is sounds crazy, but ask yourself, “Why am I afraid of sharing my opinion?” or “Why can’t I speak up when I have something to say?”

Ask yourself the tough questions and eventually your unconscious will start to respond. It will be like there is a separate entity inside of you that has been wanting to share its opinion but has not been able to because you were not there to listen.

Tell your unconscious mind that something has to change, that you are sick and tired of never speaking up or acting on things when you know you should. It may seem a bit like split personality, but it’s the exact opposite, it’s what will keep you from developing a second or multiple personalities.

Your unconscious mind is split into sections of a sort, all of which are working together to keep you as safe and comfortable as they can, but they need your help as the conductor to guide them into a more efficient way of handling your behavior that can only be worked out by speaking with yourself about the things that are holding you back.

Go into this exercise with as much of an open mind as you possibly can and you will almost immediately see the benefits of talking to yourself in a way that actually serves you. We all talk to ourselves whether we want to admit it or not. Why not do so with a positive intention in mind and constructively use this inner self-talk to develop qualities that lead us toward our greatness?

Use the Internet as a Tool, Not the Other Way Around

Now, this may seem like a fairly self-explanatory or perhaps common sense kind of thing, but consider this: what do you use the internet for most of the time? My guess is to check out Facebook, look up meaningless facts on Google, and to otherwise distract you from the everyday life that you are actually trying to escape from.

Sound like you? It should, because chances are this is your life as it revolves around the internet, but how could we allow ourselves to use such a revolutionary and powerful tool like the internet as something to take away from the life we could be building utilizing its endless well of resources to chase our wildest dreams?

When I was around 13 years old I made a decision that I would learn how to use the internet, the information superhighway, to become the strongest, most affluent version of myself, get out into the world of the ten thousand things, for the Taoists reading this, and really turn my life into something I can be proud of.

Most of us today are slaves to our smart phones. We sit and stare at our screens all day long, eating the spoon-feedings of daily drivel, and then go on our merry ways, consuming all of the propaganda, misinformation, and outright lies to distract us from the truth that we are powerful beings capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for. This may seem a bit harsh, but allow me to ask you once again, what do you use the internet for most of the time?

So, where do we go from here? Maybe a better question would be, where to you want to go from here? Do you want to keep living the same old life where the most exciting thing about your day is the video someone posted to your Timeline where some person or thing did something interesting or somewhat humorous, or would you rather spend your time finding ways to make your real life more interesting and worth living?

Expanding your horizon can literally be a mouse click away, although perhaps what you need is to put down your phone, close your laptop, and actually get out and do something instead of posting on your Facebook or Tweeting about it. The internet can be an amazing tool to expand your career, or even begin a brand new one that you actually enjoy, but it can also be the largest contributor to your unhappiness, if you let it.

Another way to use the internet as a tool, instead of allowing it to use you as one, is to seek out fun things to do that will inspire you to really experience life instead of merely living it. There is a colossal difference between the two. Most people are not really living, just surviving, hanging on to a thread of their humanity which hangs in the balance of their smart phones. What kind of life do you want to live, and how are you going to get there? There are some questions that Google cannot answer for you, and some that it will answer better than anyone in your life ever could. True wisdom is in knowing the difference.

Top 5 Life Hacks for Peace and Tranquility

A life hack, in short, is anything that solves an everyday problem in an inspired, ingenious manner. Since most people are struggling to find a semblance of peace and tranquility I’d say it’s an everyday problem for most people to seek and not obtain it. In my experience I have 5 life hacks, or tools in this case, that I have been using over the past few years which have literally turned my whole life around and in the direction toward my dreams.

1. Meditation

I’m sure many reading this have seen this cliche time and time again, but most people won’t even give it a try because they think it’s somehow religious or pseudoscience, but there are countless documented scientific studies that reveal the veracity of this one simple technique for peace and tranquility.

2. Mirror Affirmations

As most of us know, an affirmation is something you repeat to yourself either internally or out loud that affirms something you may not think is currently true about yourself but would like to begin to believe. For instance, an affirmation I use everyday is “I am always expanding, growing and improving in every aspect of my life.” Mirror affirmations are ones you use while looking deep into your own eyes in the mirror, which is great for getting in touch with who you truly are and beginning to see the real you.

3. Mindfulness

There are mindful meditations, but mindfulness is much more than a meditation, it’s a lifestyle. Being mindful of yourself, your surroundings, and things that are affecting you in your life is the perfect way to become more aware of what makes you tick, what no longer serves you, and what needs a closer look at.

4. Present Moment Awareness

Mindfulness leads to living in the present moment because if you are being mindful you are being present, and living in the here and now means you are focusing on what is happening within and around you instead of getting lost in your head and living on autopilot. Lao Tzu said, “If you are depressed you are living in the past, if you are anxious you are living in the future, but if you are at peace you are living in the present.”

5. Visualizations

Picturing yourself as being peaceful and tranquil will train your subconscious mind to deliver the results you are looking for. Again, some of you may see this as pseudoscience, but there have also been studies which proved that using your creative imagination to visualize a goal you are striving for creates unconscious patterns, or neuro-pathways, that contribute to most of our conscious behavior, which includes whether we are at peace and tranquil or otherwise.
